Tips on saving money when buying airline tickets

The next time that you plan for vacation and you need to take a flight, you might want to consider these tips because it'll save you money when you purchase your tickets. Plane tickets are very expensive! $$
  • First off, plan this vacation or your destinations wisely and as early as possible. Make sure you know your dates, times, and the destination where you wish to go. Also make sure that you can those days off of work, school, etc.
  • It's cheaper if you purchase tickets months early before your desire date, especially if you plan to travel to a different country. So if you plan to take a flight during the summer, you might want to consider buying your tickets sometime soon.
  • If possible, choose a date that is during the week (Monday through Friday) rather than the weekend. Weekends are common days where passengers book their flights. Also avoid the dates that are before, on, or after a holiday. Traveling during the holidays are the most expensive.
  • Go to a booking reservation website rather than contacting your prefer airline. There are tons of websites that you could go to. Some websites offer comparable sites such as TripAdvisor; where multiple websites offer their prices so you could see which one is the cheapest. Common booking websites include Orbitz, Expedia, TravelocityPriceline, and so much more! You might see that most of these websites have similar or close prices, but you'll see how much money you save when you know you have selected the cheapest one. These websites also include hotels, rental cars, and even cruises. You could mix all of those features together for your perfect vacation. With flights, you could pick the times you want and see which airlines that is the most compatible to you. They're easy to use and explain details of the flight.
  • Sometimes, some days or times would be cheaper than the day or time you have selected. You could try putting something different and see what the results are. Try traveling in the morning rather than night. You could also try putting a different airport that you are able to go to or arrive to and see if that is cheaper or not.
  • Once you selected your ticket, be aware of the fees and policies that the airline offers. For example, some airlines charge prices for carry-on luggage or if your luggage is more than 50 pounds. Airlines could charge you for insurance which is optional.

  1. Natalie, your blog is so helpful! I live in Virginia and plan to travel up North to see my friends during the summer. Your helpful comments about saving money on a flight makes it a lot easier on me. I decided to start looking for flights now since it is cheaper to look as far in advance as possible. I am also looking for a flight during the week so it won't be as crowded and so I can save money. I looked on trip advisor and Expedia to see if I could find a cheap airline ticket and I did! After, I compared it to just going on an airline and finding a regular ticket I noticed a big difference in ticket sales. Thanks for suggesting that great idea! I’m so glad you mentioned by hidden fees such as charging extra for baggage. I have had that problem with airlines before. Thanks!
