How To Make The Perfect Bun

There are many simple and easy steps in making the perfect bun for your hair. With the right hair length and tools you will quickly learn the easy steps in making this new and easy bun. Here is a list of the tools will you need:

  1. Tube sock or a mid calf sock
  2. A pair of scissors
  3. An elastic
  4. Hairbrush
  5. Bobby pins
  6. Hairspray (optional)
  7. headband (optional)

Steps on how to make your bun perfect:

  • Take the clean sock and cut the end with the scissors that is not already open. Specifically, cut around the toe area so both sides are evenly cut.
  • Take the sock and role it up from one side. Keep rolling it up until your sock is in the shape of a doughnut.
  • Brush through your hair to get any bumps or knots out of your hair. This is crucial in making your sock bun so you get the perfect smooth look leading up to your end result.
  • Keep brushing your hair back up into a ponytail depending on how high or low you want your bun to be. For a high bun, make sure your hair is brushed up on top of your head and for a low bun, make sure your hair is more in the center, back of your head; and then simply make a ponytail.
  • Take the sock and put it around your ponytail like you would put a hair elastic on.
  • Next pull the sock up until is at the end of your ponytail (it may not be completely at the end if you have layers in your hair)
  • Twist the sock towards your head and let the hair slowly twist into the sock until your at the base of your head
  • Secure the sock and your hair with an elastic
  • Take your bobby pins and stick them into any loose parts of your hair
  • Lightly spray your hair with hairspray to ensure your hair stays in place the whole day and to get rid of fly-aways.
  • Slide a cute headband on if you would like.
If you fail the first couple of times is perfectly okay. It takes some time to get used to how to put the sock on the right way. As you are putting the sock on it might be a little messy and look like it's going to turn out horribly but I promise it won't. Keep going until you are at the base of your head and if it still looks bad then just try again!

  1. Hi Erin! I never knew that you could use a sock to make a perfect bun but now I do. I'll definitely try it when I want my hair in a flawless bun. It looks really quick and simple to do. I've seen an "As Seen on Tv" product that is exactly like the sock bun except it's not a sock. I believe it's a roll made out of tin that is flexible so it could fit your hair when you make a bun. But anyways, I'm glad I now know that I could use any sock and save money by not purchasing that product. I don't often use a bun for my hair but there are times when I do, and sometimes it's so hard to make a perfect one with just an elastic. My hair is naturally curly so I have a feeling that it won't come out as nice, but I have no problem straightening my hair to try it out. I look forward to try this tip out the next time I want to make a perfect and bouncy bun.
