Gangster Squad

In 1949 gangster Mickey Cohen has become the most powerful figure in the California criminal underworld and intends to continue to expand his criminal enterprise across the United States forcing out his rivals in Chicago. The police have not been able to stop Cohen's rise. Cohen has eliminated witnesses and bribed both the court and the police controlling both illegal and legal sides of L.A. Sgt. John O'Mara was selected by Chief Bill Parker because of O’Mara’s special operations background and training during World War II to bring down Cohen. During this time O'Mara picked five other officers Coleman Harris, Conway Keeler, Max Kennard, Navidad Ramirez, and Jerry Wooters. This group of people formed the Gangster squad and their objective was dismantling Cohen’s crime empire and forcing him out of Los Angeles.

Based on true events it made the movie more interesting because I wanted to find out how it unraveled in the end. This movie was action packed from the start to the very end. It manages to maintain its momentum for two hours. It also had some funny parts. It’s an action movie but you will get a couple of laughs from this movie. This movie also had a fantastic cast with Josh Brolin as Sgt. O’mara and Sean Penn as Mickey Cohen, together they made this movie fantastic. There's often a stiff price to pay for doing what's right, especially when everyone else is willing to look the other way and ignore evil, to take the easy path, and let bad guys get away with whatever they want. John O'Mara and the rest of the gangster squad take great risks to fight the mob and didnt get recognition for their accomplishments, but in the end their biggest reward is knowing they did the right thing and made the city a better place.

O'Mara takes no prisoners in his fight against the Los Angeles mob. He's outgunned and gets almost no support from his colleagues in the corrupt LAPD, but he refuses to back down, even when it means risking his life. It's worth examining whether his actions are justified by his worthy goals.

  1. I remember seeing commercials for this movie and wasn't sure if I wanted to see it, but I do believe that Sean Penn and Josh Brolin are great actors, and Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone will become great actors in their own right. I am also intrigued by the idea that they go outside the law to do what is right. Overalll, i might have to watch this movie now.
